I guess you know why they call the light on the dash an idiot light.
(No offence intended)
The only reason I can think of for not getting some kind of guage on 
your dash in place of a light is if you are running concours at a show
or need to keep your ride (car or truck or whatever) completely original
for whatever reason.
A $20 guage is much better preventative and peace of mind insurance.
A guage will also let you have some notice of a problem before it can 
become critical.
My mother had (had) an idiot light go on in her car just after the motor 
seized up. 
That is not much help.
For the price of a recore the peace of mind of not gambling with a motor
is well worh it.
I live in Kingston Ont. Can. and we are too concerned about the upcoming
winter that we get to worry about you southerners living in the toasty
warm sun and sand. Start chanting all you want ...
