Thanks, guys, but nope.  CHKDSK /R took **2 hours**, with one reboot.  No
error messages that I could see.  No change.

The .EXE isn't encrypted.  It *is* a RAR SFX.  Do you think WinRAR could be
holding it open just to provide its property page extension?!  (It has a
shell extension).  That would be a bit frosty
