I had the same problem, I called the DFW ZOO and asked them what might
have happened. I do not know if this is true or not, But they stated to
me that it could have been one of 2 things. I was not feeding the
mother enough, or she was not eating because of the other fish in the
tank.

Go to your local Pet Store, and get a Divider. They are ugly, but they
work. I actually had a batch of Fry that lived in one side of my tank,
and I cut a Hole in the divider so they could get to both sides, but
the Males could not.
