What you are basically saying is that the first time you read a message,
the date is right, but the second time, the date is screwed?

I just tried that myself, and it worked fine (using 4.2 beta though).  From
memory, some code in that area was changed from 4.0 -> 4.1 (by me +
Michael Stapleton).  That was to fix a bug Michael was experiencing.  So,
can you recompile the source and insert debug statements at various places?
 BTW, are you using any other utilities over your *.msg files?  Other
people use that field for other things.  Can't remember what, offhand.
