I think Jeff's point is that humans simply can't do that, day in, day out.
They have to have some coping mechanism.  It might be religion.  It might
be consumate professionalism.  But it can't be living on the edge of
anxiety daily.  I've an acquaintance who has been an ER physician for 20
years - you can't do that for 20 years.
