You're about 3 directories too high -- either
a) Get to this point, then change directories to group/chess
or
b)  When you open the site, use ftp://ftp.pitt.edu/group/chess
or
c) Open it via the Web with http://www.pitt.edu/~schach then mouse on ftp
site, then on subdirectory you want.
