RT> BR> While I think you might have something here, I wonder why the
RT> BR> effect isn't consistent across all enclaves of minorities (thinking
RT> BR> here of orientals) - or maybe I don't, since the orientals seem to
RT> BR> have strong familial ties and work together as extended families.
RT> Begorrah, you are on to something. Family values (and by that I do't
RT> mean just a mommy and a daddy) have been declining for years. Many
RT> kids today have absolutely no remorse for any trouble or pain that they
RT> cause. Thankfully, there are a great many of them who still do.
They're getting harder to find. I work for a large police department, and a
horrifying number of the juveniles we get for things like beating up old
ladies to take their pocketbooks see no wrong in this, becuase the little old
lady wasn't strong enough to hold onto it, therefore she didn't deserve to
have it. This isn't what my father taught me, and it isn't what I';ve taught
my kids -but in many cases this IS what the putative parent(s) have taught
the
critters.
RT> BR> The demise of the family almost always presages a rise in crime.
RT> BR> Perhaps the most appropriate question to ask is where the family
RT> BR> structure went in the areas affected, and what we can do to
RT> BR> encourage that the damage be undone -
RT> I may disagree with you with the definition of structure. I don't
RT> agree that it must be an opposite sex family. The main thing is that
RT> it is structured, strong and gives the correct values on intereacting
RT> in society for the kids to live by.
I'm old enough and conservative enough to have a problem with some of the so-
called marriage arrangements - but I agree that stability and structure are
key elements.
RT> BR> ....not the race of the folks in
RT> BR> the area, because the race isn't really particularly interesting.
RT> Nor is it the main problem.
Never has been the main problem - just one of the more visible attributes.
