object is whatever the speaker wants it to be.

I would answer "Yes" to your question, although I would be more
inclined to say that an object is just a variable with methods (functions).

I would not recommend telling your teacher that a variable is just a simple
object because that is not the language of C++.

I just stuck "define:object" into Google and found that "an
object is a variable (data) with methods" is a pretty good definition.
