  The common theory is that white spot is caused by stress.  The spores (?) 
are in the water all the time, but the fish normally can fight it off.   A 
stressed fish can and will pick it up..  
    Malichite (SP?)  green fixes it up.  Raise the temp a bit to speed up the 
process.  Sometimes getting rid of the stress will also clear up the 
disease...  but medication is more reliable.
