| subject: | Re: Time to reinstall XP Pro? |
From: "Glenn Meadows"
Copied the whole CD to a directory on the HD.
From the commandline, I ran the SP2 with a commandline switch, that points
it at the directory where the copied CD install files were (I'll have to
lookup the switch, but it should be documented, or maybe type the SP exe
name at the command line with a /? after it to get the options.). That
applied the SP files to the install files. I believe you can also apply
other hotfixes that way if they involve file updates. Then, I copied all
the files back to a new CDR, and used that for the install.
When I was done with the re-install, looking at the Properties of My
Computer, it says it's at SP2. Going to Windows Update, it only needed the
fixes released after SP2.
