Those are natural assumptions, but for myself and the encounter that I
had at the age of around 11 years old (around 1950) I was not influenced
by the TV media, magazines, or anything or that matter.
I had a "picture" in my mind of what they looked like, and the most
startling and clear image that I retained was the close look that I had
of their large almond shaped gleaming black eyes. They were dressed in
dark (or black) tight fitting uniforms.
The thing which has amazed me in the following years, are the more recent
descriptions which seem to have become the mainstay of what people report
to have seen, complete with their sketches of these aliens.
After I had the opportunity to be able to have a look at those descriptions
I find that I am truely amazed that what they reported as being "Greys"
fits in nicely with what I saw, complete with long spindly arms, long
digits, and almond shaped large black eyes.
I have still, even to this day, retained a clear sharp image of that
picture in my mind, that large almond shaped gleaming black eye (as
black as night) in close proximity to the left side of my face.
I have also still retained the image of the three of them as they
approached me.
These images I have retained and their source was not from some influences
as you suggest, gleaned from movies, television shows, or any source other
than my own experience. At that time there was little reported or known
, or at least reported as widely as it is now, about what they looked
like. Due to this, I have had the tendency to discount observations that
they are based on suggestion, and tend to beleive that what was seen is
probably a true account if the observors keep repeating the same type
of experience over and over again.
For many years, I retained that image of what they looked like, and only
in recent years have been amazed to discover that others have reported
seeing the same things as I did.
What we might report as looking horrific, or terrifying, can only be just
another way that nature has adapted the species according to survival
requirements. All habitable planets in this universe will not be exactly
the same as Earth. They will have developed species which have adapted
through the evolutionary process into quite something other than what
we look like.
The larger accounting of a particular type of species of aliens being
reported to be observed is probably due to factors which are not
according to our present understanding, in that they might just be
closer in proximity to our planet making space travel more possible for
them.
The tendency of Hollywood these days to make movies which dream up and
conjure horrible aliens bent upon our destruction is a money making ploy
and bolsters the box office revenues tremendously, but has little value
from a scientific research standpoint. The real truth once it is discovered
would be the subject of a movie or book that would hit the best sellers
lists I'm sure!
