Internal or external?  In internal, make sure you have the modem
configured for the comm port and IRQ you plan to use, and that Telix
is configured to use the same commport and IRQ.  If external, make
sure you have Telix configured to use the commport and IRQ the modem
is connected to.
If your internal is "plug and play", it will automatically configure
in DOS _only_ if your BIOS supports "plug and play" - and most don't. 
Best bet is to manually configure the internal modem by setting the
jumpers.
