As further evidence that I'm getting older, my oldest niece (she's 22
this year, and the oldest of all the nieces and nephews) is getting
married the 07th of June of this year.
It's been quite a while since I've taken any wedding photos, and want to
do this one right. By the way, I took her parents' wedding photos.
Anyway, I'm looking at trying to acquire an electronic flash unit
similar to one I had years ago, and miss. I believe it was an Agfa
SCA-300. A "potato-masher"-style unit, with obligatory bounce (head
rotated inside the lens unit), wide-angle to tele-lenses, and what I
*really* miss, a fill flash unit on the front.
I'm looking for one similar to what I once had, that will work with the
Canon AE-1 I was fortunate enough to acquire from Chris Kenward.
I've looked at the ProMaster units, as well as the one I've seen on
www.adorama.com.
A local (to the office) camera store has a ProMaster flash with the
tilt-swivel head, two automatic ranges, as well as dedicated mode for my
AE-1, with the addition of the required module. What it *doesn't* have
is the fill-flash on the front.
My question is, would I be able to achieve similar results by using a
reflector card similar to what I used to use on my old Vivitar 283?
You know, point the flash head straight up, and attach either a white or
a gray reflector card.
Of course, I'll be doing some available-light shots, but will also need
to use the flash, for the majority of the "formal" shots.
The photos I used to take with the bounce/swivel/fill-flash combination
looked great, with very little evidence they were shot with a flash, at
least to the "untrained" eye.
I've got a bounce flash, an old JC Penney model, that will work, but
won't really do to get the kind of photos I'd like.
Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions?
