the above was added on 24 Apr 2013 by Maury Markowitz... according to the edit,
it was taken form the ben baker document... it was originally listed in the
"Origins" section... 14 Nov 2015 is when Maury Markowitz moved the above to the
"Tom Jennings account" section...

the above comes from the ben baker document which i think is HISTORY.MSG in the
FIDOHIST.ARC files that is available... i cannot extract it on this system to
be sure but i definitely remember ""porting"" it and the other two files to
html for display on my previous system back in ~1999 which looks like when i
recovered a copy of this file that i have previously lost...
