Mulling over George Pope to Steve Asher 30 Dec 2003

Hi George...

SA> Through DARPA's "LifeLog" program, they want every aspect of a
 SA> person's

 GP> DARPA?

Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (started life as Advanced
Research Projects Agency - ARPA, which, if I remember correctly,
created ARPANet, which is now known as the Internet.

SA> life recorded in a database - indexed, and searchable, ranging from
SA> emails sent or received, every web page surfed, every phone call,
SA> every TV show watched to GPS transmitter to track movements &
SA> sensors to monitor health, and more.

GP> I think most of this (at least the tracking of
GP> computer-usage/content for those who are on the
GP> internet with Win32) is long established! :|

Much of our online activity is monitored & archived, but not yet
"bound" to a non-repudiable digital identity, but that will come.

GP> appears that Gates has his old security wish of a camera on every
GP> street corner & in every home!) :|

SA> And a chip implant in every hand?

GP> I hadn't heard that one mentiond as partwf Billy's dreams, but
GP> surely it IS part of John Paul's dream! :|

GP> (definitely NOT one of MINE!!! (I've seen too much how even
GP> seemingly INNOCUOUS information gathering/etc. can (WILL!) get
 GP> abused, and I'm not willing to open those floodgates. . . ) :|

I don't think it will be you that opens the floodgates - your
government will be pursuing a plan for e-government, which will
mandate the use of some form of credential to use when voting,
applying for any social security benefit / pension etc, driver's
licence & the like. Once you have the thing, it will be very
difficult to do any business without it. :(

Cheers, Steve..
