May be time for me to follow my own advice and stay with the earlier 
ehicles.
Have an 86 240 DL that runs great excepting brief periods when it shuts down 
for no apparent reason.  Several trips to different garages resulted in 
replacing the air flow meter...still have the same problem returning a short 
time later.  A friend tells me there were problems with the 86-88's wiring 
harness.  Seems a shame to only get 130,000 miles and have it run great 
otherwise.
