Knute Rockne crash:

It was TWA, which was then known and Transcontinental and Western Air.
That may have been before the renaming though. I have to look it up. The
airlines were renamed after they were disqualified from their air mail
contracts.
It was a TWA plane also that carried Senator Cutting in 1935. That led
to a Senate committee re-investigation of the accident. And it is said,
eventually to the creation of the CAB.
Howard Hughes gained control somewhat later. He renamed it Trans World
Airplines in 1946, I think. Now I have some booksfrom the library - I
have to look at them to be more exact.
