subject: Name Lookup

On Mar 29 Jerry Schwartz sez to All:

JS> Does anyone have a clue how the name lookup works in a V7 nodelist?
I guess it depends on your nodelist update/compiler & search engine
Jerry. I use Xlaxnode (registered) to update/compile nodelists and you can
tell it to build whatever idices you want. I use the Sysop and node
indices, and use BONK as the search engine. I simply tell Bonk to search
for either a node or and Operator (SysOp), and it uses the appropriate
index.

JS> It seems to be remarkably perverse. For example, if I enter
JS> "George Peace"
Are you entering that in a message TO field in Msged, or in your nodelist
search program? If you are doing it in Msged, perhaps you are not telling
Msged to use the right index. Here's the applicable parts of my Msged.CFG:

***********************Msged.CFG***********************************

Userlist f:\comms\bt\userlist.lst,f:\comms\bt\sysop.ndx,(null)
Nodepath f:\comms\bt\
Nodelist fidonet nodex sysop.ndx

*******************************************************************
The userlist.lst is optional (can be named anything you like) and follows a
very specific format. The sysop.ndx is the sysop index generated by your
nodelist compiler.

NODEPATH is obviously the path to your nodelist.

NODELIST defines which nodelist (you may use other nets beside fido), the
node data file (nodex.dat generated by the n/l compiler) and the sysop
index file (generated by the compiler).

JS> it comes up with 1:270/104, which is nodelisted as
JS> "PEACE" and doesn't like calls from strangers, rather than
JS> 1:270/101 which is nodelisted as "GEORGE PEACE".
Sounds like you are compiling the node.ndx file rather than the sysop.ndx
file. When you enter a name in Msged, Msged is looking for the BBS name
rather than the Operator name.

JS> Is there any way to change this behavior?
If you post your Msged.cfg file (or the parts shown above anyway) and your
n/l compiler control file (sans and dialing info - that isn't needed here,
and can take pages) maybe we can find the problem.
