See if you are blocking DNS, that might make it appear to "stall"
also check for mapped remote drive and remove them to see if that's the
problem. As a last resort you might try reapplying the sp manually, I had
one machine yesterday that after the most recent patches from windows
update it didn't want to allow anyone in the domain to logon, reapplying
the patches manually fixed that.
