On Thursday October 29th, I plan on taking the machine that runs the mailhub which is currently running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit and upgrading it to Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. Unfortunately this will not be a upgrade in place, I will have to do a custom install or clean install. I will be using PCMovers Upgrade assistant to make things less painful. This will obviously mean taking the mail hub offline while this occurs. I have mapped out my strategy: Step One: Uninstall any program I have installed that I dont use, havent used and no longer use, I am doing this now and this step should be completed by Wednesday evening. Step Two: Image the C partition with Acronis True Image so that I have a backup to fall back to should the upgrade fail. I will image the partition that houses the mail hub, as it is a separate drive as a precaution. Step Three: Run PCMover upgrade assistant, which will export to a file/folder all that I will want to import into the Windows 7 install. Step Four: Boot to install disk and install Windows 7, this shouldnt take long as clean installs are a whiz. Step Five: Install PCmover upgrade assistant and proceed with import of previously exported files and programs. Step Six: Put mail hub back online and tweak in the background. I dont have a time table as to when each step will start, last or complete. Those using the Jamnntpd server, will not notice any loss of connectivity as it is on another machine, but you will notice the mail slowdown. == Ross Fidonet Feeds Or Fidonet In Your Newsreader: http://www.easternstar.info E-mail: ross(at)cassell(dot)us | Other Places: http://links.cassell.us Fidonet Netmail Routing Chart Z1 Only: http://netmail.fidonet4u.info ...
