I'm using #12 font. Is that too big? I do it so *I* can see it. :)=0D
 =0D
I hope this message looks Ok. Your email messages, Bob, are coming in wit=
h
real big letters and no quote marks or anything to divide the quotes from
your original words --=0D
=0D
=0D
I hope you don't take offense, but I don't agree here. =0D
What's there to offend? I was talking about a mindset. I guess it's a lev=
el
of enthusiasm, geared with a natural desire to learn the skill, and yes,
there are other factors. I know that no matter how much I would love to h=
ave
been a broadcasting engineer, my low math skills prevented me from ever
getting beyond the basic license. I have no concept of numbers, and despi=
te
a couple of tutors and a remedial class, still cannot do fractions or
decimals. I am incapable of understanding those things. =0D
=0D
Now That feeling I KNOW. :)=0D
=0D
=0D
Photoshop, like a traditional darkroom, only requires that the user learn=
 to
the level it takes to complete the job at hand, in a manner satisfactory =
to
the person. I'm sure there are very few people who can do everything that
can be done in a darkroom, and it has been said that there is probably no
one that can do everything Photoshop is capable of. =0D
=0D
With the younger kids coming up the line...they're already computer
mindsetted. I know...sad to lose the wet side...a lost art. Like Morse
code...and I was REally good at that!=0D
=0D
I can teach a person with basic computer skills the basics of Photoshop i=
n
an hour. In the darkroom, can teach someone how to develop a roll of bl=
ack
and white film, make a contact sheet and a basic print with minimal burni=
ng
and dodging in about an hour. But as we all know, while photography is a
skill that can be learned in an hour, it takes a lifetime to master it.=0D
=0D
Well said. I'm still working on it.=0D
=0D
And all that is the easy part. You still have to have to fill the frame w=
ith
something interesting! =0D
=0D
Heh. That's where I had an advantage...I had an amazing lifetime of
experiences and I Still didn't carry a camera often enough.=0D
=0D
Well, beyond (at this point), black and white prints, the old processes =
too
tintypes, ambrotypes, daguerreotypes and so on. I would love to set up a
wet plate darkroom and travel with a horse pulled wagon shooting old time=
rs
in the out back of America. Lot's of depth, lots of soul.=0D
=0D
OK. I once wanted to make glass negatives. I probably have more than
enough mercury in me!=0D
=0D
Not to say the entire digital world is without soul or ??? Check the book=
,
The Architect's Brother , by Robert Parke Harrison (said to be a pseudony=
m
for a husband/wife team). The work is absolutely mind blowing. How did th=
ey
do it? What is the paper they print on? Look for it at Border's. Barnes =
&
Noble might have it, but I have noticed they have cut back on their
photography inventory. =0D
=0D
One just opened about 75 miles from me. Next trip into the big city. (t=
