Yes, that was a good idea. Since I was in the Aleutians, I was 5 hours 
difference from my brother in NYC. To talk to him on the phone, it was easier 
to call at 7 am and talk to him at noon his time.

In many ways, yes, it's very different. I just heard from a friend of mine up 
there, via email. She was telling me about the fire and how it was affecting 
life in Fairbanks (where she is) and Anchorage/Wasilla (where many of our 
former colleagues are).
