From: "Glenn Meadows"
I did that just 2 weeks ago, when our cable modem in the Apt kept going off
and on. Been trouble with it for over 2 months. Ranted at service techs,
got nowhere other than "we'll send someone out in 7 days, our next
available apt." Went to customer service (billing) and demanded a
credit for time out, which they provided, but THEY got a tech out the very
next day. VERY sharp cookie.
Traced it back to the community closet in the building, where the typical
rats nest was discovered, along with 5 or 6 bad connectors in the maze of
splitters. He took 2 hours and cleaned the whole mess up. Looks like a
new install. Service solid as a rock now. Said he spends all his time
cleaning up install messes like this one was, that was basically years of
garbage thrown on top of garbage each time someone went in to make a
change.
During the outage, we used a neighbors unsecure wireless, all 3 computers
in our house connected that way.
