The issue is not the hard drive - although it did seem to try and power
itself off a couple of times last week...but has behaved since I cleaned
the dust bunnies out of the ventilation holes in the case 
- I think I'm starting to have memory issues....black screen reboots
and such.  And the machine is over 7 years old....I think it might be time Why bother with so much trouble,
