Recent events have caused many gun owners to question the wisdom of
voting for Bob Dole.
Meanwhile, President Clinton continues to enjoy a strong lead in the
polls.
I think we're all in agreement that a Clinton re-election, coupled
with the Democrats re-taking control of Congress would be a disaster
for us.  They would proclaim it to be a "mandate from the people" for
more gun control and push even worse measures through.
And as we've learned, its a lot harder to repeal a law thats already
been passed than it is to keep it from being passed in the first
place.
A lot of Congressmen in the House went on record to repeal the
"Assault Weapons" ban.  The Democrats are using those votes against
them, as "proof" that they are "too extreme", "slaves of the NRA", etc.
Organized labor is raising 35 million dollars, through special dues,
to help the Democrats retake Congress.  Much of that money, right at
this moment, is being used to finance attack ads on Pro-gun
Republicans.
We gun owners were an instrumental part of the coalition that took
control of Congress away from the Democrats in 94, and sent so many
anti-gun politicians packing.  We cannot allow that effort to have
been for nothing!
It is imperative that we support our friends in Congress!
Not just our own representative, but also our pro-gun friends and
allies from other districts who are under attack for supporting our
rights.
Under Federal Campaign Finance laws, the NRA can give no more than
$5000 in direct campaign contributions to any candidate.
Money is the lifeblood of a modern political campaign.  Pro-gun
candidates cannot answer the lies and slanders our enemies and the
liberal media are spreading about them without it.  It is the
ammunition they need to wage this battle.
There are 3 million NRA members.  If we EACH sent $20 DIRECTLY to a
pro-2nd candidate, that would be SIXTY MILLION DOLLARS!
There are 50 million gun owners.  If every gun owner sent $20 DIRECTLY
to a pro-2nd candidate, that would be ONE BILLION DOLLARS, an
unprecedented sum in politics, one that would send an unmistakable
message to **ALL** politicians!
An outpouring of this kind of money, money directly from the people,
would forever put an end to the lie that "only special interests
oppose gun-control."

IS IT WORTH TWENTY BUCKS TO YOU TO DEFEND YOUR GUNS???
First, get the facts about your own Congressman.  The NRA, your State
Rifle and Pistol Association, or your local Shooting Club can give you
the facts on him.  If he has a good record supporting our gun rights,
please send him a letter, thanking him for his efforts and enclosing a
donation to help re-elect him.
If he doesn't, seek information on his opponent and consider helping
elect him instead.
Second, take part in RETURN FIRE 96.  We want to publicize the KEY
races, the races where a good, pro-gun candidate is locked in a close,
but winnable contest.  Races where an influx of pro-gun money can turn
the tide and help assure a pro-gun Congress.  We are asking every gun
owner to "adopt" one of these candidates and send him or her twenty
bucks.
Twenty bucks is what it would cost you to buy a box of hunting ammo or
a box of primers.  Surely it's worth twenty bucks to protect your
guns?  Your right to shoot and hunt?
We're starting out with a short list of candidates.  We hope to add to
it and we'd like specifically to invite pro-gun activists to suggest
additions to the list.
We're calling for volunteers to help us spread the word.  Please
crosspost this widely, to every appropriate BBS conferece, Internet
group and Online Service Forum.
We're looking for people to put up WEB pages supporting RETURN FIRE
96.
We want people to call or fax the various talk-radio shows about
RETURN FIRE 96.
We want people to print out RETURN FIRE 96 posters and put them up at
every Gun Shop, every Shooting Range, every Hunting Club, and every
Gun Show.
Time is short, people, and the situation is critical.  But we can
still turn this around if we ACT NOW!
