Ah, but in the case of U.P.'s rebuilt E-9 set, they had them tied to a
string of "City-like" varnish reminiscent of the handful of "City"
trains fielded on a daily basis by U.P. for many years, traveling daily
between Chicago and the West coast. Who will ever forget the "City of
Los Angeles," "City of San Francisco," or "City of Portland" trains
running in bunches, literally, across Nebraska and Wyoming in either
direction? Even in the later years prior to Amtrak's takeover of the
intercity rail service in the U.S., U.P. ran what many termed U.P.'s
"City of Everywhere" passenger service, with cars for/from the several
destination cities being switched in or out at Ogden, Utah, every day.
One thing about those E-9 A-B-A or A-B-B-A sets, they look far sleeker
than almost anything pulling freight _or_ passenger service today.
