KT> Two questions - Can anyone recommend a good container for the patio
KT> tomatoes? And second, what other veggies are fairly easy to grow on
KT> a patio?
Been there, done that. Baby cherry tomatos will do ok in big containers per
plant. Nothing smaller than a milk jug (gallon) will do and that isnt big
enough for one plant.
Easy to grow ones? Here is what will work well after a tad of practice.
Green onions. Eat the tops and plant the bottoms. They will grow new tops
and spred. Those redwood planters that are 6ft long and 8inches deep will do
for this.
Lettuce, frilly types not hard head lettuce. This will do fine in that same
sized redwood like planter box. Needs fair amount of sun but a flouresent
light of the right type will make up the difference well if you have a high
wall before the planter.
Herbs: Most will do fine in smaller containers and under porch conditions.
Radishes: They do pretty well. Be a big smaller due to the light but will
taste fine. Fun to grow too!
Marigold: Not a veggie but put lots about. It controls natually many of the
bugs that you would otherwise have to use pesticides to control. Pretty
things you can put on the table to boot!
Oh and best flower: Snapdragons and pansies. They will grow like mad on a
porch.
