CB> Quotes are taken from a message written by Sheila to Charles on

CB> SK>I could've sworn there was some exam you posted about that students
CB> SK>needed a relatively low raw score to pass (below 50%). I will have to
CB> SK>spend more time looking for that article. Then again, I may have

CB> You could well be right. In New York State we have been administering
CB> minimum competency tests at grades 3 and 6 for a number of years (all of
CB> that will be changing shortly). I am not familiar with the entire
CB> battery of tests, but on the 6th grade math exams, students are
CB> considered minimally competent if they get 22 of the 60 questions
CB> correct. That might not be so bad if the test were challenging, but it
CB> is nothing more than a test of basic skills. Pretty sad, in my
estimation.
As it turns out, I did go back and read through a number of the messages
that you had posted about foreign school systems, but I was unable to locate
the quote I was thinking of (if indeed it existed and wasn't just my
imagination). I decided I didn't have more time to pursue that search. :-(
