Hello Rene, >LL>There are many ways an administration can "fake" an attack in order >LL>to justify an invasion. But I find it extremely doubtful that the Bush >LL>administration, or that of any other American administration, would have >LL>knowingly allowed terrorists to hijack passenger airlines and plow them >LL>into skyscrapers and the Pentagon. RL>I don't think they allowed them, but they screwed up with their secret RL>services so much that in the end, Al Qaeida was able to do it. Which RL>is at least grave negligence. Different intelligence agencies failed to share information, which is probably why al-Qaeda was able to do what it did. >LL>Unlike Saddam Hussein in Iraq, Fidel Castro did in fact have WMDs >LL>on Cuban soil. Fortunately, JFK convinced Kruschev to remove the >LL>missiles from Cuba before an American invasion was incurred. RL>There would have been no invasion, but an all-out war. Same difference, given an all-out war would have been short-lived. RL>And nobody wanted to take this risk so the Soviet Union decided to RL>pull out of Cuba back then. American military forces could wipe out Cuban forces within two days. RL>As much as the Brits and the Americans would like to admit it, they would RL>never compare Saddam's WMD arsenal with the one the SU hat. Saddam never did have any kind of WMD arsenal. At least, not after 1991. >LL>Who would argue against invading Afghanistan in order to go after >LL>those terrorists who struck America? Virtually every American wanted >LL>Osama bin Laden's head on a pike. And most still do. RL>Did they get it? IMO Afghanistan will be a money pit and no end in sight RL>unless somebody pulls the plug on them - which basically means Osama RL>has won. Afghanistan was a poor country before the events of 9-11. Afghanistan is still a poor country today. Afghanistan will still be a poor country ten years from now, a century from now, or a thousand years from now. The British did nothing to help the Afghan people a century ago. The Russians did nothing to help the Afghan people two decades ago. The Americans are doing very little to help the Afghan people today. Nobody cares about the poor people of Afghanistan. Osama bin Laden and his al-Qaeda friends do not care about them. The Taliban do not care about them. The warlords running the country do not care about them. The whole world does not care about them. Now if Afghanistan had oil everybody would care about them. Just like everybody cares about Iraq. Or is it the oil in Iraq that people care about? --Lee * SLMR 2.1a * Now, the Lord lighten thee!
