Have you flown much since 9/11/01? As I understand it, checked luggage
goes through an even more powerful X-Ray machine than carry on. The
effects are cumulative, so one or two quick passes of ISO100 film may do
little damage. Faster films may not fare so well.

You may request hand inspection, but you may be sent to the end of the
line if the inspectors feel they are too busy at the moment. Not good if
you are tight on the departure time. In the end they have all the power.

There was a sad story by a shooter in another forum. He had done a bunch
of sports in Germany for a US magazine - all shot on ISO800. He asked
the inspectors to hand inspect and instead they laughed at him and
passed the film repeatedly through the machine. When he protested, they
said +ACI-Sue us+ACI-, knowing that it was unlikely since international law
suits are difficult enough between corporations and almost impossible
between individuals. Nothing he could do, but explain to the editor and
hope that his fee would be covered.
