I have done this, but only once or twice and I *think* I may have seen a
message similar to what you quote. Assuming you have the backup right
(which an administrator would normally have), I suggest that you IGNORE the
error message and continue with the rest of my previous post.

You definitely CAN backup encrypted files if you have the backup right.

I have seen several truly stupid error messages from Backup that make me
think that the above advice is worth trying (who knows what it tried to do
that generated the message).
