I found a can of Olympia Beer the other day. "It's the water," it says.
That's true. That's all Olympia beer is. Water.

Of course, Olympia Beer hasn't been brewed at the Olympia Brewery in years.

Sadly, the brewery, now owned by Miller, who is owned by a South African
company is closing in a couple of months.

Had a brother in law in San Francisco. One Christmas, I gave him a couple
pounds of fancy Seattle coffee. He asked that in the future, I give him
"normal coffee," like Folgers. Next Christmas, I gave him a three pounder
from Costco. He was in heaven.

In actuality, the regular coffees far outsell the la-de-da coffees in
Seattle and elsewhere in this state. But the "good stuff" is indeed
everywhere. One would think that here in Washington State, where there are
places where people rip trees out of the ground with their teeth -- and
that's just the women -- that fancy coffees would be a rarity, but I have
found espresso stands in some pretty outback places. One day, after a photo
trip into the rain forest -- it was back in the early '90's during the
height of the timber industry depression , we drove through the town of
Forks, over on the coast. There were a lot of street people there. Saw a
logger sweeping the floor in the library, saw other loggers working in the
super market, but outside the market, there was a small line at the
espresso stand. I asked the woman behind the counter if the employment
situation had affected her business. "Nope", she said.
"Business was as big
as ever. People gotta have their coffee."
