I can believe that.

That may be a state law. The M1 can be had from the Civilian Marksmanship
Program, 1401 Commerce Blvd, Anniston, AL 36207...they say no FFL is
required to transfer surplus military rifles from CMP to an individual.
Requirements: 1. Be a US citizen at least 18 years of age.
2. Be legally eligible to purchase a firearm.
3. Be a member of a veterans organization or of a club or
state assoociation affiliated with the CMP (contact CMP
for a list of over 4500 qualifying clubs/associations).
4. Have participated in a marksmanship activity or satisfy
with other criteria.
RN> The BAR I could do without, but I would like to have the other two.
Springfield Arms sells an M1A with a tripod and scope mounts. The best
feature of this rifle is that the thumb breaker loading clip has been
replaced with a 30 round clip that drops out of the bottom like a normal
rifle. It also has a shortened version of the M1 stock.

CMP also has a pistol competition at Camp Perry every year. 1911 pistols
are very welcome.

By waiting until your old age, when you're no longer able to go league
bowling, you can then join a shooting club.
RW>> The BAR would require a machine gun license to own.
RN> Yes, and it's also considered an assault weapon.
There is no longer an assault weapon ban in affect. That law sunset during
Bush's admin...
RN> This is probably why the liberals have their collective panties in a
RN> bunch.
Don't they always?
RN> Too many assault weapons available, usually the AK-47, in the hands

RN> always the sociopaths among us who just don't care.
There are laws against sociopaths aquiring firearms of any kind. One can
probably find a black market source if one looks hard enough, but over the
counter sales still require a back-ground check by the FBI.
RW>> If they have a 100yd range, they will.
RN> The Sheriff's range here is an open-air pistol and rifle range.
If it's a Sheriff's range, it must be open to the public. Since police
ranges are paid for by the taxpayers, they're always open to the public,
even in California.
