So what's going on?

There's been a real rash of DIFFERENT sets of spam/virii going out using
the approaches of:

1) being from microsoft.com with a security patch
2) being a reply from your own mail admin saying mail is undeliverable
3) being a reply from some strange domain saying your mail is
   undeliverable
4) being a reply from some strange domain saying your mail has been
   rejected/blocked

So what's the deal with these?

Who is doing this & what is their ultimate goal(s)? :|

I recognize another regular group & that's the admin{at}somewhere.wherever
sending out a *.WAV or a *.SCR file without much fanfare -- I believe
that's the klez worm?

I can't help but wonder how much the big players are involved in
spamming worms out there, as a way to get maximum access/exposure for
their own nefarious/profitable aims. . . :|

I'm getting one to two dozen daily from the Microsoft
Security/Updates.NET one! :|

The only thing that makes sense to me why there'd be so many is someone
has a 'bot set to cull certain postings in Usenet, on a particular group
or two. . .

Seems to me to not be the M.O. of your typical amateur punk hacker, who
usually wants to do some damage that he can see & gloat over, within his
circle of acquaintances/enemies! :|
