subject: W2003 server help needed

From: "Antti Kurenniemi"

Howzat to each and all.

I have a problem with a Windows 2003 server that I can't figure out:
there's a service application (custom app, assume that the app itself works
for now (it does, I've tested it in another computer)) that forms an FTP
connection to another server and gets a bunch of files from there, every
night.

The problem is, that the service cannot connect to the other server. I can
connect from the very same server using the same username and password,
with the command-line FTP client just fine. The Windows Firewall is off.
These computers are in the same network, and the FTP server is actually
just an XP Pro machine running under my desk.

What else can there be that would prevent the service from connecting to
the other computer? I haven't the faintest clue about the security policies
and stuff like that, so I don't know if there's anything there that I
should check...? Any and all help appreciated, and if you can't help me
then I'm off for a beer 'cause it's too hot to think anyway...

TIA,
Antti Kurenniemi
