Use Wireshark to capture the network traffic and see exactly what it is
doing. Speak up if you want some help doing that, or interpreting the
results.

A capture can sometimes be extremely useful - you can see stuff that opens
your eyes. Also, look in Event Viewer logs - not likely, but the programmer
might have logged an error.
