NP> The worse a rabid anti-gun president should be able to do is
NP> veto each and every repeal bill. He can not, repeat, can not
NP> create new anti gun laws.
TO>True, but he can stack the deck in his favor. Look at the folks that
TO>he has appointed to the Supreme Court.
NP> Ah, but the President only nominates to the Court. Congress elects
NP> them in.
True, but the president has influence in Congress as well, as is
evidenced by the "people" that have been elected to the Supreme
Court during the Clinton administration.
NP> Congress can force the Presidents hand by refusing to elect
NP> the type of nominees the President comes up with. Look at what
NP> happened to Bush and his nominees.
I do recall what happened, but wasn't the Democratic party dominating
Congress at the time?
TO>Also: every time one of his pet bills is passed into law he can
TO>veto the repeal of such bills until he is ousted from office.
NP> Yes and no. His pet bill can't become law if it never comes across
NP> his desk. Congress is the one that puts it on his desk to sign in the
NP> first place. And if the President wants to play veto, Congress can do
NP> a 2/3 override. Congress is really where the power is according to the
NP> Constitution.
True, and agreed. A 2/3 override is not unheard of, certainly, but
not as easy to come up with as it sounds, except in clear-cut
instances. Mr. Clinton may not agree with me about many things, but
he *does* have friends, and he is not stupid, as much as I would be
pleased if I could say that he is. "Slick" is not just a nickname
for Mr. Clinton, he *is* pretty slick; and I do not mean that in
a negative sense. The fellow has a nack for manipulation of the
views of the masses, and I am sorry to say that he has tried
*repeatedly* to ruin my rights as a citizen of this country. I, like
many of us, cannot respect this; I *can* respect his talent though.
TO>The "assault weapons ban" is just a lot of BS, but we dare
TO>not get used to that sort of BS, lest we let something serious
TO>happen to our rights, as Clinton is pushing for.
NP> Perhaps you don't see "BS" as being serious. I do. I also don't
NP> think things like the assault weapons ban and the terrorism law are not
NP> serious or BS. Their here, their real, and their are incredibly anti-
NP> Constitution. Bob Dole pushes and supports them every bit as much as
NP> Bill Clinton. Well, maybe not quite as much, but very nearly.
Oops! I didn't mean to imply that this BS is not dangerous; indeed
it is! I agree with you 100% that these things are not to be taken
lightly; I do not take them lightly. When I said that the "assault
weapons "ban" " was BS, I meant that it did not "ban" anything. I
*do* find these things to be frightening, and unconstitutional. I
also am aware that they are intended as conditioning measures.
Bob Dole has as much of my respect as Bill Clinton does; nil. I see
Dole as being willing to make concessions, while Clinton is *not*
willing to compromise his position on certain key issues; namely:
"gun control".
TO>That is a good point, but to re-elect him would be similar to
TO>saying that we are willing to put up with a figurehead that wants
TO>to disarm the public, and I can't see that as being good. Of course,
TO>Dole is anti-gun too, so let's elect someone that respects the Bill
TO>of Rights and the Constitution. Take care.
NP> I'd like that. Don't think it'll happen, but I'm putting in my two
NP> cents to say to the power(s) that be today I'm sick of you both, and
NP> want you both out. And if I ever get the chance, I'll do it. So
NP> here's your heads up. I'll probably be switching parties soon too,
NP> with a nasty letter telling them why I'm leaving the BillyBob party.
Leaving? Were you "with" the BC party before? I can't believe that
anyone here (except for the odd transient) would have voted for
Clinton; he was pretty clear, to me, about his stand on firearms
before he was elected, despite that "I went hunting, but failed"
thing. I support you in your veiws of BC, and Dole; I will not be
voting for BC in *any* case, and unless Dole smartens up quickly,
I will not vote for him either. I would rather elect Mickey Mouse.
Take care.
... Mickey Mouse wears a Bill Clinton watch.
