This is the second reply I've got with that pinout but does not apply here.
White and blank connection, second ground, left channel audio are swapped
here beteen CD drive and Sound card. Seems my problem was more a problem 
of failing eyesight than electronics. Once brought to my attention I broke
out the magnifier and a trouble lamp, saw the markings stamped on the back
of the drive and all became clear. As to snagging a new sound card that is
unneccesary as I've already got a PCI Turtle Beach sound card in the
machine but lack Win 3.1 drivers for it.
Moving to Win 95 on the new drive where that card should work just fine.
