subject: Multiple child kinds?

I suspect the answer to this question is "no", but here goes...
Is there any way to write an MDI application that can have multiple kinds
of child form?
What I want to do is create an MDI app that can have both multiple text
editor and multiple binary viewer children in the parent at the same time.
Though I haven't done a deep search yet, I can't see any good way to do
this. The best I've come up with is to make all children have both the
editor and the viewer components, and just make the appropriate one
visible/active/available at run time when each child is created.
Better options gratefully accepted!
