Replying to a message of JOHNJWILSON to GOD DAN:

 J> -> EH> We baptize *for* the dead. The person being baptized is 100%
 J> live -> EH> and they are being baptized for a dead relative. ->

 J> -> Has it occurred to you that the dead person might not have ever
 J> wanted  -> to be a mormon?

 J> Now THERES a serious concern from an atheist!
 J> I love this echo!
 J> I confess it hadn't occurred to me...nor did it ever occur to me than
 J> an atheist is worrying about how a dead person feels about a baptism.

Atheists probably don't believe the various doctrines, but they are aware
of them and are aware of various religionists' thinking about them.

In any case, I see no difference between proxy baptism of non-Mormons who
happen to be dead and the (sometimes forcible) baptism of Jewish children
into the Christian faith. Jews used to refer to the practice as 'stealing our
childrens' souls.'
