| subject: | TelNet/FTP for Arachne |
Hi everybody,
This echo sounded like it could use a real contribution lately so i
thought to myself there was one option which has been left in blank long
enough and i decided to post it here, today... This one shows that some
answers are waiting right under one's nose, it's about external programs
like `Waterloo TCP FTP v0.7' for ~FTP~ support in `Arachne'; as a bonus
you get ~TelNet~ and `Kermit' from `MS-Kermit v3.15 Medium'! My reading
of `C:\ARACHNE\MIME.CFG' quickly led me to a solution no one else seemed
to care to mention in clear: the "External internet protocols" section,
on the "external/ftp" line... You simply remove the semi-colon and make
it defined as "|{at}ftp.exe $p"! That's it, `Arachne' can run `FTP.EXE' if
it can be found somewhere on the declared path (including `C:\ARACHNE\',
implicitly)! The ~TelNet~ add-on i offer is trickier, that's for people
who got `RLFossil' working already. Here it goes: in the same section,
on the "external/telnet" line, use the following definition if you dare:
|{at}Set Host=$p\n{at}RLFossil.EXE 4 1 "MSK315M.EXE -f ArcnRLFK.INI, Stay"! I
am posting the present message using `MS-Kermit' but with a twist - it's
launched from within `Arachne'. :> As with `FTP.EXE', `MSK315M.EXE' is
found somewhere on the path (no need to copy it to `C:\ARACHNE\'); what
needs to be worked on IN the `Arachne' directory is `MIME.CFG' (it's the
modification i shown above and don't forget to activate this by removing
the semi-colon), the only other thing will be `C:\ARACHNE\ArcnRLFK.INI':

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I created it for use by `MS-Kermit', in conjunction with `Arachne';
the way my `MIME.CFG' entry and this configuration file are built is how
i could get this last touch added: type "telnet:" and `MS-Kermit' loads
but waits for a manual ~URL~ input, use "telnet://juge.com" and it makes
a call to that same BBS where this is from, using `Kermit' of course! I
tried "|{at}Kermit.EXE Set Port TCP/IP $p, Take MSKermit.INI, Connect" with
some success but `RLFossil' really counts for something in the final cps
figures; the direct Class-1/~EtherNet~ packet-driver interface one gets
in `Kermit.EXE' could make sessions so jerky i skipped `MSKermit.INI'...
The BBSers who can't get `RLFossil' to work can always refer to old
posts i made, if they can find these! >;-D Ahummm... Have fun, enjoy.
P.S.: Robert Couture's BBS used to keep extensive records of this echo.
... Using `MS-DOS'+`LSPPP'+`Arachne'+`RLFossil 8088'+`MS-Kermit Medium'!
