Yeah, I've got it running locally, except for the dos doors (and the
customizations which I haven't moved over yet). I've had it that way for
about a week, I'd guess. I figured I'd use eleserv -telnet, but it seems
that other suggestions keep being made. By being at a loss at how to start
ele in the first place, I didn't mean running the bbs, but actually using
mgetty or whatever (unless I can just use eleserv) or the other suggestions
to run ele on login to the unix machine (i.e. starting ele from a remote
connection) which just confused the heck out of me. I've got a decent book
now, but this is still really confusing. The linux box is behind an NAT on
a really small network., so I need to port forward whatever connection I'm
using to that box (I'd really like to just use eleserv and telnet for port
23).

Yes, that's the idea. Your confusion comes from thinking you're still
in DOS land. Native unix programs, including EleBBS/Linux, do not need
to talk to the com port as the OS handles all comms, be it local,
dialin, telnet or SSH.

The first thing you should do is configure EleBBS to run locally. Once
you do that you're 5 seconds away from getting it to run remotely.

Yes, just configure DOSEMU to use the the "virtual" driver on one COM
port, then set all doors on all nodes to use that port.

It's a normal unix program, like ls, df, etc. you just run it.
