Hello Alexander,
ak>>> The Taliban was legitimate government in Afghanistan before
ak>>> the US invasion. All the world knows it.
LL>> The Taliban was de facto government in Afghanistan after the
LL>> collapse of the previous government, which had been supported
LL>> by the former USSR, which also collapsed at the same time.
LL>> I would not go so far as to claim the Taliban was de jure
LL>> government in Afghanistan, since only one or two nations in the
LL>> world recognized it as such. And even those two countries
LL>> (both Islamic) found the Taliban regime repugnant.
ak> So, those people who defeated the USSR's puppet government formed an
ak> illegitimate government? ;-)
An illegitimate government by an illegitimate people.
The Taliban (the word means "students") merely applied what
they had learned from their elders. Another group also claimed
to be the government, but controlled only a very small section
of the land. Probably because the Taliban allowed them to.
Their constitution was the Holy Quran. Everybody had to abide
by its laws, as interpreted by them. Sharia law, interpreted by
the Taliban. Appeals could be made to their elders, but they
rarely disagreed with their students, as good Muslims never make
mistakes.
Those who disagree with their veiws are known as infidels, and
are dealt with in the time-honored fashion that began with their
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
That is why nobody is so stupid as to question their verdicts ...
