Hi Teresa:  Just a thought for you re your scraps.  We have a dog that
we walk nightly and where we live (British Columbia) it gets pretty cold
in the winter...the pads on a dog's feet can get frost-bite pretty
quickly, not to mention the salt and chemicals that are on the roads to
melt the ice.  These are pretty rough on the dog's feet as well.
We bought a set of four "bootees" for our dog.....$19.95!!
They were made out of polar fleece and had velcro fasteners.  Our dog
just loved them...we called them his "flying boots" because he just had
a ball bouncing around in them and just flew down the street.
Inevitably, he lost one in a snow bank and there is no way of finding
it, so we went back to the pet shop where they had taken some sets apart
for "replacements" and for $5.00 we got another one.  (Keep in mind that
on top of these prices, are 7% Provincial Sales Tax and 7% G.S.T., so
every dollar is $1.14!)
To make a long story short, the dog lost another bootee this year and I
refused to pay the $5.00 for another one.  I was about to buy a piece of
polar fleece, when my sister-in-law told me that she has a ton of scraps
that she was about to throw out.  She took one of the boots as a sample
and 15 minutes later, had made a set of 4 new boots!!!
She is now making them up, bagging them, and will sell them for $10.00 a
set at the next craft fair.  (We suggested that she make sets of 5 and
charge $12.00)
Anyway, this is just a suggestion and if you are interested, I can send
you one of the original boots so you can see what I am talking about!!
I don't know where you live and will feel pretty goofy if you are in
Florida or someplace warm where dogs don't need boots!!!
