Doom was an awesome game.  I still play it, and not afraid to admit it, 
however, are you in your right mind when you compare Doom to Defender
and Joust?  You've NEVER gotten tired of them?  Joust and Defender
were cool in their time, but the control was awful!  Classic feel?
Yes...  Nostalgia ahoy.  I may not be one of the biggest supporters
of Doom, in fact I've flamed it many, but it is by far better than 
those games, unless you are referring to the originality aspect of
said games, in which case you were originally correct.  But it sounded
like you were talking about gameplay and fun factor, which both of 
those games lack very much in.
