That's the fall back.  

Do notice how few miracles there are today because of modern science.  It's 
unlike olden times when miracles were a dime a dozen.  

That's because people are as gullible anymore.  The mysteries of your 
god have natural explanations.  What used to be a god, high on a 
mountain top, has moved on to further regions ot even in this solar 
system.  The light of reason causes god(s) to shrink further into 
the background.
