That Peugeot abandoned selling cars in North America would make it more
difficult for it to re-establish a reputation as a reliable car.   But
Peugeot/Renault is a huge enterprise, much bigger than either Honda or
Nissan, and both those companies sell lots of cars in both Canada and the
U.S.

Incidentally, FIAT, Opel and Vauxhall are no longer sold over here.  Saab
certainly is and Subaru is a big hit in the north because of its all wheel
drive.

Standards can be an issue, particularly the California emission
requirements, but one would think Peugeot could deal with this if they
wanted to.

Cars generally had anemic heaters until recently.  The Model A had a baffle
on top of the exhaust manifold and that was optional.:-(  My 1947 Plymouth
and my 1953 Chevrolet had heater radiators but they were pretty punk and I
was saved only by the fact that Victoria temperatures rarely dropped below
0.
