NLM is NetWare  Loadable Module - optional software loaded by the operating
system. I guess the Novell version of a Windows service.

Years ago there were issues with database programs using a NetWare server.
The solution was to turn off "optimistic locking". This is so
long ago that I would imagine the underlying causes have been fixed, but
you never know.

I can't find my ancient notes on the matter, but maybe Google will turn up something.
