PAUL GODFREY spoke thusly to: DICK ROEBELT
PG>PG> Most copy centers such as Kinkos and drug store photo
PG>PG>departments will not make copies (or allow you to do it
PG>PG>yourself) of anything that may have a copyright, whether it is a
PG>PG>photography, from a book or magazine, unless you present a
PG>PG>witten copyright release or useage license from the copyright
PG>PG>owner.
PG>DR> Hmmm. The few times I've been to Kinko's, I have never been
PG>DR>questioned as to what I was doing.
PG>If you take something to the front desk to have the clerk do
PG>multiple copies of something, or you bring in something for them
PG>to design or incorporate into such as a flyer, they will question
PG>anything that looks like it came out of another source (e.g. book,
PG>magazine, professional photography, etc.). If you use their
PG>"self-service" machines, they don't watch over your shoulder as to
PG>what you do. This has been the big "beef" and complaint that many
PG>graphic designers, and photographers have had with Kodak, Fuji,
PG>Cannon, et. all with the self-service color copy centers kiosks
PG>that have sprouted in malls, camera stores, copy centers, drug
PG>stores, etc.
Oh, Ok. Never had the staff do anything for me. Just used the
machines myself.
But you will be pleased to hear that when my kid took a photo I
purchased from our latest white-water rafting trip to a store to make
copies, they refused.
If he had asked before he took them, I could have told him that he
should order dupes from the gal who took the photos. There was an
order form packed with the pics. He was surprised...I wasn't.
