MW>JC>I remember the thing that
MW> JC> totally fascinated me was the trim wheel rotating. I never got
MW> JC> over seeing that as it was new to me.
MW> Did you ever forget and leave the handle sticking out? The
MW> first time I did this it almost took my right knee off when
MW> the F/O trimmed the airplane!
I never did it myself but watched it happen to someone else in the
Simulator. Will probably be the last time for him though and I learned
the lesson.
MW> JC> I'm also trying to remember the Production Test Pilot
MW> JC> that checked me out in the DC-9. O yes! it's coming back to me
MW> JC> now it was Dave Weibach (sounds like). I understand that he
MW> JC> moved up to lofter heights with MD and don't know what happened
MW> JC> to him but I guess he is retired.
MW>I did a couple of DC-9 Acceptance tests with Dave in around
MW>'68. Nice guy, like most of their pilots.
Yep! It was early 1969 that I was there in Long Beach. I thought Dave
was a Prince of a Guy and really knew his stuff. I heard that he had
advanced up to VP of something but never got to get back in touch with
him. He did so much testing with the DC-9 that he could tell you the
what/fors from real experience.
MW>I imagine he is
MW>retired, though I don't think MD held them to the age 60
MW>rule that shot you and I down. Air Canada stuck to that,
MW>although in Canada you can still hold an ATP over that age,
MW>and if you did drop to a lower licence you still held all
MW>your endorsements. I finally had a private with a B-747
MW>endorsement, but I could never find one for rent!
We are probably still talking about the same thing. Here you keep the
ATP and all the ratings but just have to be current and can't fly
scheduled Airline over 60. You can do charter work not under FAR Part
121. You are correct they don't have a lot of them sitting around the
muni awaiting rental.
MW>We're planning on spending most of the summer here, although
MW>I go up home at least once a month to pay the bills and
MW>check on everything.
I did that this past winter from Phoenix, AZ. My RV group just had a
large Rally at LazyDays in Tampa but I didn't get down that far. Turned
north at Slidell, LA. for a visit in MS. My younger brother just got a
factory built Challenger II at the last Sun n' Fun. Do you ever get
over to that. If you do maybe we can meet you for that experience next
April. If that sounds like a deal to you will work towards it. I really
enjoyed the Challenger II. That's back to the real flying. I think I
even got up to 500 ft. one time hehe!
Anyway Murray give it some thought and maybe we can get up a group for
there next year. Took a NorthWest friend with me year before last but
he got tired of trooping around in the grass. Always enjoy visiting
with Duane Cole as I see him there every year. Hope we can get
together...Jim.....
